Jim Hudson Connections Center: The Journey to Intentional Transformation

Updated: Jul 1, 2022

The Problem

On one single night in 2019, there were 4,172 people experiencing homelessness in the state of South Carolina. (MACH Report 2019)

When those same people were asked, {/what services are missing in homeless agencies through out the Midlands?" We noticed a trend... they said:

• Long wait times

• Lack of {/next step" resources available

• Lack of understanding of mental health needs

• Lack of communication with clients on process and expectations

• A need for more 1-on-1 connection

Based on what people are saying, there is a felt gap in resources and services for the most

vulnerable population of neighbors among us. What can we do?

The Solution

Oliver Gospel not only listens to the voice of the community, Oliver Gospel acts.

Previously, we served the needs people who check in at our Men's Center or via phone/online with our Women a Children's Center, Toby's Place.

Now, at the Jim Hudson Connections Center, anyone can receive assistance for their next steps in the journey out of homelessness all in one place and with more personalized connection with our Connections Manager.

"The Connections Center creates a better experience for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, allowing for intentional relationship building and Gospel-centered conversations, and makes Oliver Gospel a more effective vessel to reach the homeless in our community."

By coming to the Connections Center, just off Taylor Street, guests can receive immediate care for their needs, including:

• Clothes

• Shoes

• Bibles

• Food and Water

• Registration to stay in the shelter

• Registration for extended care

• Referrals to community resources

• Trauma-informed care

• And more...

By partnering with the community, the Connections Manager helps guests fully utilize all the

resources available to them, depending on each unique situation. Through the Jim Hudson Connections Center, we expect to serve a total of 1,350 unique people by August 2022.

"Rather speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the whole body grow so that it builds itself up in love." Ephesians 4:15-16
